Tickets for Regis, Jon Stewart, etc...?

I sent for tickets to Regis and Kelly, The View, Daily Show and a few others months ago, I did receive tickets to The View last week but have heard nothing on the rest. Do they usually come snail mail or e-mail? We are leaving on the 14th, do you think there%26#39;s still hope that they will come?

We really wanted to see Regis and Conan but I don%26#39;t know if I want to waste time standing in line for something we may or may not get into with stand-by tickets.

Iowa, I can just respond about The Daily Show. I don%26#39;t know how you ';sent'; for tickets, but according to their Web site (and how I got mine). You needed to call them at a special number listed on the site.

At this point, when it comes to The Daily Show, I would chance it, show up as early as you can for a taping and wait in line. They are good about trying to accomodate stand-bys, they even let you use the bathroom while you are waiting. Check out their Web site, it will give you specific details.

Let the staff know you don%26#39;t have tickets and they will advise you accordingly. Good luck. Report back if you go, okay?

Trying to get hold of some tickets for Knicks game on Sun 6th March ... ticketmaster showing none available. Can anyone recommend any other ticket sources - or is there a chance of any being available at the box office a few days before or on the 6th? Thanks.

Try getting them sent to your hotel - I am gonna book mine tomorrow and get them sent to my hotel - hopefully they will arrive on Thursday - the same as I do!!!!

It was cheaper last week when I looked, but I guess the sellers put their prices up closer to each game.

Our tickets are in %26#39;the gods%26#39; but they were the cheapest - and to be honest - we are going for the atmosphere and the experience more than anything else.

Watch out - as there is a 23 dollar service and shipping fee added to the cost of tickets

I spent ages trawling through websites looking for tickets before our trip in January, and ended up having no luck.. upon arriving in NYC went along to Madison Square Garden on the way to ESB day before the game.. what a result! Plenty of tickets left in all areas, no queue at all, really helpful staff, and the best bit was tickets are face value, no supplement, credit card charge, bkg fee etc. I would definitely reccomend waiting till you get there.

Hi,I am travelling to New York with my family over Easter,our children are age 6 %26amp; 9,we are stay for 3 full days and located upper west side.How does this sound (busy first day downtown)Statue of liberty,Sea port, Ground zero, China town,Little italy. Day2 (Easter Sun)Ice skating central park and a bird watching tour also in the park, my son is very keen to do this he saw it advertised on C P website,late afternoon ESB ready for sunset. Day 3 Times square Toysrus walk to Macys and a little shopping.Do you think this sounds ok......Have I missed anything.Many Thanks.

I%26#39;m not sure the skating rink will still be frozen by Easter Sunday :( You should also check that the birdwatching tour is on for Easter Sunday on centralpark.org The kids would enjoy ';the Easter Parade'; on Fifth Ave. It%26#39;s not really a parade, but people dress up in crazy hats and parade around on Fifth ave. near Rockefeller Center (50 st). Lots of buskers etc. Fifth Ave. is closed to traffic for a while around there.

Your plan sounds fine. What about a show? Beauty and the Beast? Cookin%26#39; off Broadway. There%26#39;s a theater called the New Victory that shows only shows for kids (with gentler prices). Look on broadwaybox.com for discounts.

Will the Avalon work well for limited time/itinerary?

Hi folks, thanks for all of the great info here. Will visit NYC for the first time with my wife and 3 kids (12, 9, 8) in June, but only have approx 48 hours in town. We%26#39;re planning on arriving on a Sunday afternoon, check into the Avalon (nearby) and spend the evening at the Empire State Building. Good weather permitting, the kids should be mesmerized, having never seen a big city. Monday, we plan on taking the 2 or 3 hour Circle Line boat tour in the morning, and hopefully get to Central Park in the afternoon. Finish up the evening with a visit to Times Square before calling it a day. Will only have Tuesday morning to possibly shop around before departing town. Way too many hotel choices, so why wouldn%26#39;t the Avalon work for us? Or would it?

Its a great choice. Its very centrally located and given that you will be there in warm weather, it will be comfortable walking anywhere. Its a very nice hotel. I stayed there over Thanksgiving. Hopefully on your next trip you%26#39;ll be able to stay longer. Its a fabulous city!

It would work fine but so would 100 others. With 3 kids, I%26#39;d go for an all suite hotel though like the Doubletree Suites in Times Square. If that%26#39;s not affordable, Affinia.com has a number of all suite hotels. You can get a one bedroom with a kitchenette. Very convenient for a family your size. The Shelburne Murray Hill or the Affinia Dumont would be good. Yet another is the Bedford right near Grand Central Station.

I also wonder why you would spend so much time on such a short trip on a boat rather than IN the city seeing things close up. Yes the boat ride%26#39;s fun, especially on a nice day but you%26#39;re just sitting or standing in the boat watching things from a distance. I think your kids would much rather be seeing things up close. If you want to do a boat ride, take the Staten Island Ferry (it%26#39;s free!!) and see the Statue of Liberty. In fact, the Embassy Suites hotel downtown might be an even better option for your trip.

I stayed at the Avalon last summer. It was the only hotel I could find in NYC with two queen beds. It is perfect for families. Breakfast included.

I don%26#39;t know how late you get in your first night, but as the Empire State building is steps away from the hotel, that is a good choice. Buy your tickets online, so you don%26#39;t have to wait in the line. If it is not too late, go over one more block to Macy%26#39;s if anyone wants to do a little shopping. Still the largest department store in the world. (here%26#39;s a little trivia for you, where does the red star in Macy%26#39;s logo come from?)

I don%26#39;t know about the circle line boat tour, but you might want to think about the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island trip instead. If you do this trip, go first thing in the morning. Save a little time by not getting off at the Statue, and only visit Ellis Island, which is much more interesting. You could do this trip, and afterwards take a short walk to the finacial district and see Wall street, pay your respects at ground zero, and still have time to hop on the subway to see Central Park.

In the evening definitely go to to Times Square, but you should take in a Broadway Show while you are there. Your kids would love The Lion King or Hairspray. You would still get to see Times Square.

Staten Island ferry will save time that%26#39;s for sure, but it is kinda nasty. Navigating the subway to the ferry is kinda difficult, it%26#39;s not any easier getting to the circle line (same stop essentially) but i guess you%26#39;ll be taking a cab, it%26#39;d be easier to get one on a sunday. In reply to someone else%26#39;s post, I love Ellis Island, but for a short first visit i would give it a miss, it takes about 3 hours to do.

The Avalon is a great location, i live around the corner, my friends have stayed at the Avalon the past 6 years for its great location. I would avoid Times Square hotels, very difficult to get a cab and a lot of scary people for out-of-towners in that particular subway station.

Remember there are very few Broadway shows on Sundays, matinees only i think, and Monday they are all closed..check the schedule.

I want to take my boyfriend in to the city for either dinner and a hotel room or maybe a play....im trying to keep the money reasonable and staying over night on a saturday is expensive. so i was thinking maybe just dinner and the hotel room -- Any Suggestions?? (25 year old couple)

Remembering back a few centuries ago to when I was 25, I would%26#39;ve preferred dinner and a hotel room to a play...and you could have eliminated the dinner!

For finding a good price on a hotel

1)Look on travelzoo.com and see whether any of their (hotel) deals will work for you. Very often the specials are for a weekend but may require a 2 night stay.

2) The Park South Hotel has theater weekend packages. Try looking on their website (parksouthhotel.com) to see if that would work for you. They also have packages that just include a voucher for a meal in their restaurant. This would be nice but it%26#39;s not a trendy rest.

3)Go to playbill.com Register for free. See if they have any hotel specials.

4)The cheapest way to get a hotel room in NYC is to try bidding on Priceline for a 4* room, but you MUST know what you%26#39;re doing.

Set aside at least an hour of time to read biddingfortravel.com. First read the FAQ under hotels. Make sure you understand free rebids and all the zones. Then get them to help you construct a bid.

Thanks for the input. I think that I am going to stick with dinner to the city. When I first saw the hotel room prices, I considered just doing a limo and dinner but i think thats a waste of the limo.

I thought about priceline and did research on biddingfortravel.com and I would settle for any of those 4 star hotels. I saw that someone got the hilton for 110 a night.

Try one of the hotels in the Greenwich Village area. I took my girlfriend for a romantic dinner at Chez Michallett in the west Village, corner of Bedford and Grove. Tiny, candlelit bistro, only 12 tables, wonderful food, very cozy, good wines. Edith Piaf music in the background. She absolutely loved it.

There%26#39;s a fairly new hotel downtown with the unfortunate name of the Clarion Collection Solita Soho Hotel. Haven%26#39;t stayed there but it has been getting rave reviews. It%26#39;s more in Chinatown than Soho but you may get a good rate.

Newark Airport Express / Return to JFK

We%26#39;re flying in to Newark on Saturday evening - thinking about getting the Newark Airport Express to our hotel (The Roosevelt on 45th %26amp;amp; Madison). Presume I can either get off at Grand Central or pay an extra $4 to get dropped directly - what are other advisors%26#39; experience of this service?

Returning ollowing Tuesday evening but to JFK - is a taxi the easiest method from the Roosevelt to this airport ?

I%26#39;d say pay the extra $4 and get dropped at your door, who wants to have to struggle with luggage, you%26#39;re not really far enough away from the hotel to get a cab if you get off at Grand Central, but what a hassle, the cab would cost you about $4 anyway. The Newark Airport Express is good.

For JFK I recommend booking a car from Carmel (212 666 6666) or Tel Aviv (212 777 7777) both are reliable and will cost about $40 plus tip and toll, check their websites for current prices. You%26#39;ll end up paying about $55. I just feel that standing hoping to get a cab with your luggage in a busy part of town, when you have a plane to catch is stressful, then if you get stuck in traffic it will be expensive. What if it%26#39;s raining or it%26#39;s rush hour, you%26#39;ll never get a cab then.

What type of food do you like? What do you consider to be inexpensive? If you post back on your preferences, you will get many great suggestions. As to the Edison, have you read the reviews posted here? Recent posters mention mouse problems there.

Some of my favorite Italian restaurants are nearby. The best southern Italian is at Carmine%26#39;s, on W. 44th between 7th-8th Avenues, but don%26#39;t go with fewer than four starving adults, they only serve family style. And without a reservation, the wait can be literally HOURS!!! There are some wonderful Italians on ';Restaurant Row'; (W. 46th between 8th-9th Aves.). My favorite is Orso (www.orsorestaurant.com), a pretty, rustic, pink marble restaurant... excellent food and service! I also like Becco (www.becconyc.com) though their seating can be very cramped. But their $21.95 all-you-can-eat pasta special is fabulous, as is their wide selection of $25 wines. Another is Lattanzi, which can also be a bit crowded, though I like the seating in their enclosed garden. My favorite there is their artichokes. Yet another good Italian is on W. 50th St., just east of 7th Ave. Osteria Stella is a big, raucous place with a very loud bar scene, but the food%26#39;s really good!

Other Italians nearby are Osteria al Doge, and Trattoria dell%26#39;Arte, both very good. And don%26#39;t forget the best pizza in NYC is at John%26#39;s, on W. 44th just east of 8th Ave., in a converted church.

It%26#39;s not Italian, but Virgil%26#39;s BBQ (www.virgilsbbq.com) has the best BBQ in the city, and is just a couple of blocks from your hotel. Not expensive, either!
