Usually nothing very good. A stay at a hotel is a business agreement. You get what you pay for. If you take more than you pay for your business partner will likely try to sever the realtionship quickly (bye bye) or extract the amount of money appropriate to the services rendered (credit card crisis). If you want to pack a lot of people into a small space try the apartment rental approach. They, too, have limitations. But if you talk about it upfront you can probably get a reasonable deal.

Belvedere Hotel:Fantastic the ';NY1'; package which includes full American b%26#39;fast is such good value @ $139-160.Great location blah,blah you%26#39;ve heard all that before.

When you need that extra suitcase:Orchard St LES $20 for expandable they want $60 for elsewhere.Pastrami @ Katz Deli while you%26#39;re there.Best value food for us was suprisingly Meat Packing District,Cafe Florent outstanding steak frites $18 and tres trendy crowd.

Carrige ride/Tavern on the Green

Going to NYC next week and wondering if it would be better to do the ride first, then meal or vice versa? Better day or night? Are reservations a must for the ride? Also, since I will probably be in wheelchair (broke foot last week), would I be able to put folded chair somewhere in/on carriage? Does carriage ride go by the TOTG?

I%26#39;m not too sure they can handle the wheelchair. For their typical park ride, the hansom cabs stay on a very short loop along the south end of the Park Drive. You can hire them to go anywhere, though, so they can certainly go to ToTG. Don%26#39;t know what the cost of that would be. Personally, I wouldn%26#39;t risk further injury by climbing in and out of a carriage. You can also get to ToTG by taxi or bus, or take a ';rolling'; tour through the park. Hopefully we won%26#39;t have snow while you%26#39;re here.

When we were in NYC at Thanksgiving the horse and carriges stopped outside TOTG, if you have a reservation there you may be able to ask the door man to look after the wheelchair while you have your jaunt

I think lunch at The Tavern on the Green is the best bet and daylight the best time for a ride through the park. You do not need reservations for a carriage ride, but you may need them for the restaurant. The carriage can drop you very close to or at the restaurant and those drivers do all they can to ensure you have a wonderful ride. Just explain your needs, chair and all. The Tavern on the Green is an easy jaunt (on foot or in chair) to the west edge of the park where cabs flow constantly. If it%26#39;s incovenient to go that route, have the desk at the Tavern call you a cab. Have fun!

There are so many ';must see'; places in NYC - to name a few: Times Square at night; a trip up the Empire State Building (buy tickets on the web in advance to avoid the lines); Central Park South (with the horse and carriages) and the Waldorf Astoria, corner of Central Park South %26amp; 5th Ave.; Rockefeller Center %26amp; St. Patricks Cathedral, off 5th AVe. in the 50%26#39;s; a B%26#39;way Show; Greenwich Village %26amp; Washington Square Park (arch); at least 2 museums, I%26#39;d recommend the Met (Metropolitan Museum of Art) %26amp; the Museum of Natural History; South Street Seaport/Little Italy/Chinatown (can be combined in one visit downtown, east side); and I%26#39;d say the site of the World Trade Center (heart wrenching, but important to see) - can be combined with Wall Street. Oh, of course the Statue of Liberty - you don%26#39;t have to necessarily go to

Ellis Is. - but maybe take Circleline (1/2 way around) or Spirit of NY boat ride which takes you close enough. What did I miss? I%26#39;m sure others will add to this list! P.S. If you have time, the Intrepid is real interesting.

Exploration of Central Park is a must.....free! Go to their website, www.centralpark.org, for a calendar of events and free guided tours.

As noted earlier, a trip up to the Empire State Building is a must %26amp; buy your tickets in advance.

At least one Broadway show is a must, so check out www.broadwaybox.com for discounts, or if you want to wait and get tickets when you arrive to save on fees, you can join www.playbill.com for free, print out their various offers and get them at the box office. Remember that the longer you wait the less availability you will have for what you want to see.

THere are 3 ';major'; museums to choose from...Musuem of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art %26amp; the Museum of Natural History.....Modern Art has free admission on Friday evening from 5 - 8, Metropolitan has a ';sugggested'; entrance fee but you can actually give what you want, not sure about Natural History. IMO, one of these is a ';must';.

Take the Staten Island Ferry (free) for a trip past the Statue of Liberty......explore downtown Manhattan, Batter Park, Southstreet Seaport, Ground Zero %26amp; St. Pauls Church. Walk through Chinatown, very good places to eat at reasonable prices, Little Italy and into Greenwich Village (your 17 year old will love it), especially the area around Washington Sq Park. You can both go to Cafe Wha (www.cafewha.com), a famous music venue, fun for all ages, reasonably prices, and they serve food.

A walk over the Brooklyn Bridge is a must, also.

THe Upper West Side is a beautiful neighborhood to walk around in, lovely architecture.....start at the Time Warner Center, Lincoln Center and walk north.

If you are going to see a show Phantom of the Opera is a must. There is a discount ticket outlet right in Times Square and you can get great tickets at wonderful prices but get there early - there is a line

Also ground zero is a very moving place to see - pictures do not do it justice. My daughter was about the same age when we went, ENJOY !! Let us know how you liked it. We are going back this summer

I went last May with my daughter, and it was great! For a 17-year-old, I would recommend H %26amp; M for shopping (huge store with trendy clothes at great prices) and, if she%26#39;s into makeup, Sephora. My daughter loved them both. A trip to Tiffany%26#39;s is a must, even if you don%26#39;t buy anything. One of the highlights of my daughter%26#39;s trip was having her picture taken with a couple gorgeous New York City firemen, one of which was in the New York City firefighter%26#39;s calendar for 2005! No matter what you do, it will be fun just being there with your daughter. I went again in September with my mother, and this September I%26#39;ll be back with my mother, my daughter and my sister - a family affair! New York is the best, you%26#39;ll love it.

Best advice yet-----Go see Hairspray and Broadway. Get your tickets in advance. 2nd choice - go see Mamma Mia.

Reminder: The Plaza Hotel is Closing April 30th!

I just returned from spending three nights at The Plaza Hotel in New York, and I enjoyed my experience enough that I just wanted to remind people that it is scheduled to close on April 30th to be converted into condos (blasphemy IMHO).

Even if you only stop by to watch the bustle at the Fifth Avenue entrance, to have a last afternoon tea at the Palm Court, to check out Eloise%26#39;s photo on the wall, or to buy an authentic Plaza towel etc from the gift shop -- I think checking out the Plaza should be on everyone%26#39;s NYC itinerary between now and the end of April.

Staying there isn%26#39;t for everyone, both because of the cost and the less-than-perfect service (judging from the TA reviews) -- but there are some online deals and more if you are a Fairmont President%26#39;s Club member. I was able to get a rate that averaged out to about $225 per night -- a fair deal for a high end midtown hotel.

I was reminded that the Plaza is so much more than a hotel -- and particularly that it is a kind of meeting place/refuge for both New Yorkers and visitors alike. A grand public space -- with tea and restrooms -- where almost everyone at least seems like they could be rich, famous, or interesting...even if they are not. :-) Staying there, even for just one night, gives one a kind of privileged seat at all of this....and having a Central Park view room (request upper floor too) is just wonderful.

One obvious way to save $$ is to not eat at the hotel. The prices are insane and there are, obviously, lots of less expensive alternatives in the neighborhood.

Anyway... I just wanted to put my two cents in and remind anyone planning to be in NYC between now and the end of April: stop by the Plaza while it still is what it was!

It took me two days to get to Boston from California....the first day my flight to Boston was cancelled and I took it as an omen and gave up.... the second day my flight to Boston was cancelled again but I pressed on and got to Chicago, spent the night at the O%26#39;Hare Hyatt, and then onto Boston. I guess that%26#39;s almost three days!

Nonetheless....I loved Boston in the snow....especially walking around all the snowcovered old cowpath streets on Beacon Hill.

I had planned to take the train down to New York from Boston, but they cancelled all of those too! So my recent trip to NY was a totally separate thing. I really hadn%26#39;t planned to be back so soon, but I wanted to see The Gates and when I found out about the Plaza closing...that tipped the scale and I splurged with my United miles.

If you set up your account from work you probably had to give a password (I don%26#39;t remember). So just put in you user name and password from your home computer and it should work.

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. I was able to stay signed in at work but, when I went home it said that my email wasn%26#39;t valid. If you email tripadvisor all they will tell you is to make a new password but, if you can%26#39;t get in under your name at home how can you make a new password?!?! In the end I had to create a new screen name using my school email address and not my home email it was easier than trying to figure out how to fix the problem. Good Luck!

OK... two questions:

Whats%26#39;s the review of Blue Man Group (Off Broadway) at the Astor Place Theatre. Also, would it be appropriate and entertaining for kids (5, 11, 14).

Any advice on getting tickets for the ';Emril Live'; show on Food Network - I think it%26#39;s taped in NYC.

Blue Man Group is great, but I%26#39;m not entirely sure that a 5-year-old would like the show. It%26#39;s very visual, but it could be a bit creepy for someone of that age. The 11 and 14-year-olds would probably like it, but I doubt they%26#39;d get most of the humor.

Be aware that the theater is pretty cramped and not suitable for claustrophobics.

Tickets for Emeril are done via a lottery, and he only shoots for a limited time, so it is pretty much out of the question, sorry.
