Sparks Steakhouse

is it any good? also, anyone have any idea where the best place to get a good Chateubriand for two is? thanks

Sparks Steakhouse

Sparks, as far as the steak is concerned, is one of the best around. The problem here, aside from the prices, is the ';snootiness'; of the staff, from the Maitre D%26#39; on down. If you%26#39;re not a regular or a celebrity or a heavy hitter--do not expect to be treated in accordance with the amount of money you%26#39;ll drop in this place. But the steaks are superb.

Sparks Steakhouse

A rating of #1767 out of 4283 restaurants in NY suggests there might be better steaks out there matt.

Sparks is one of the best steakhouses in NYC. I don%26#39;t know about the numbers thing MikeLaw mentions. My only problem with Sparks is it lacks any ambiance. I don%26#39;t know where the best chateaubriand would be. Chowhound.com is a message board for ';foodies.'; Check there.

For many years, Sparks was ';it'; for me. Then they expanded to what now looks like some hotel conference room, and if you%26#39;re sitting there it feels like you%26#39;re in Siberia (remoteness, not wind chills!). Their steak is still fabulous. I%26#39;ve been liking Del Frisco%26#39;s, on 49th St. %26amp; 6th Ave. I%26#39;ve never had Chateubriand though.

thanks for the replies. yea i checked out the menu and it was kinda expensive. Keens looked like a pretty good rated place, so i might try that. hey also, wasnt sparks where some gangster got shot infront of?

Very good. Big Paul Castellano, head of the Gambino crime family, was murdered, along with his driver, Thomas Bilotti, in front of Sparks Steak House by members of John Gotti%26#39;s crew. He was on his way to a meeting at Sparks (a setup) where, had the meeting actually taken place, he would have gotten a much better table than you or I.

Ruffian, I%26#39;d always felt sorry for Big Paul because he died hungry. So near and yet so far.

I believe Joey Gallo at least had a decent last meal.

Keens has a great old world ambiance to it (especially the clay pipe collection) but it%26#39;s not the best steak in town. I really like Wolfgang%26#39;s which is owned by a distant relation of the Peter Luger (Brooklyn) people. I also happened to notice that there%26#39;s a recipe in NY Magazine for chateaubriand from Ilo restaurant which suggests they have it. Ilo is in the Bryant Park Hotel. I%26#39;ve never been but it sounds good.
