good bagels please, if possible around TS thanks!
bagels around Times square?
This is New York...every corner deli has good bagels! Have one toasted with a shmear.
bagels around Times square?
Bettina
Can I ask what a shmear is - as I also love Bagels
A shmear (noun), is what you spread on a bagel, usually cream cheese
To shmear (verb), is the act of spreading the cream cheese on a bagel
When you%26#39;re in New York, you just order a bagel with a shmear (they%26#39;re better toasted).
Bettina, last time we were in NYC, we went to Ess-a-Bagel (excellent bagels, Lesgo, BTW) and my husband ordered a plain bagel with a schmear and the clerk said ';a schmear of what?'; That surprised us, but then again, you can get a schmear of cream cheese w/lox, for example, among other types.
Oh--Ess-a-Bagel is at 51st and 3rd. Ave. We walked there from our hotel in Times Square. A bit of a walk, to be sure but it was a nice day and we enjoyed it.
A ';Schmear'; of cream cheese is less than the amount you would have on a ';cream cheese sandwich.
Not in TS, but H%26amp;H Bagels are good. THere are sold in places other than the H%26amp;H stores.
The best bagels in NYC are unquestionabley at the original H%26amp; H Bagels, on 80th and Broadway (featured in ';Seinfeld';)! I agree that good bagels are found all over NYC, but the Upper West Side is certainly a wonderful area to explore, so why not take a walk up there? They%26#39;re always hot right out of the oven! Enjoy!
My favorite H%26amp;H Bagels is on the Upper East Side- on 2nd Ave. b/t 80th and 81st. They slice them, toast them, and smother them with your ';schmear';. Granted, it was around the corner from my apartment, so it was easy for me. But those truly are the best bagels. Mmmm.... What I wouldn%26#39;t do for one of those right now!
When I went to the west side on 80th and Broadway, they wouldn%26#39;t prepare it like that for me. The employee told me why, but I don%26#39;t remember. If you are in the neighborhood on the UES, stop by. It will be the best bagel you have ever eaten!
TravelRN - When a bagel is piping hot, right out of the oven, it doesn%26#39;t have to be toasted. (Especially when you have 10 people behind you on line.) I remember people buying them by the bag full - they%26#39;re great just plain! Try the cin. raisin!
The H%26amp;H on Broadway only sells bagels for take-out--no toppings. Other than bagels, they only sell bottled water and soda.
We stayed in TS but we still went all the way down to the Village - and it was worth it. These were the best we found in NYC:
