Best B&W Cookie and Best Thai

Hi all-

I visited NYC for the first time this past November. I%26#39;m going again in May because I just simply didn%26#39;t get my fill yet. I%26#39;m looking for two things.....a great Black and White cookie and a great low priced Thai restaurant that serves Mei Krob (sp?). I know I could look up menus and such, but I thought maybe someone else would be a Thai food fan that might know off the top of their head.

And the B%26amp;W cookie.... well I just love it. I got it from two different delis in Manhattan and even made them when I got home. I was just curious if there were any bakeries famous for their B%26amp;W?

I think Zaro%26#39;s has the best B/W cookies. The problem with many that you find at little delis is that they%26#39;re pre-wrapped and could be sitting around for days. Get a fresh one at Zaro%26#39;s. (Are they still in Grand Central?) Or a bakery like Hot %26amp; Crusty (they%26#39;re all over town).

I%26#39;m not a big fan of Thai food, but recently had an incredible dinner at Sea in Williamsburg (literally 5 minutes from Manhattan!). You must see this place, it%26#39;s spectacular. They%26#39;ve got a place in Manhattan too, but everyone says the Williamsburg one%26#39;s the better.

Juniors has great black %26amp; white cookies, too, in Grand Central Station.

If you happen to be in the neighborhood, check out Moishe%26#39;s Kosher Bakery (on 7th st and 2nd Ave). They have the most mouth watering giant cookies on the planet. I used to live next door and could survive on them as dinner alone, I still make a point to go down there just for one of their cookies.

Also......what is the texture of most B%26amp;W cookies? I got two different ones. One was more cakey and the other was a bit drier more cookie like, but very thick.

Thanks! I%26#39;m so excited to have some places to go sample more cookies!

Sounds like you had one fresh cookie (the cakey one) and one that had been sitting a couple of days.

Bettina,

I%26#39;m not sure the drier ones had been sitting around. I think it was just a different recipe. It didn%26#39;t taste stale. I got it from a deli/grocery on 49th, right down from Radio City Apts. I got them there several times and sometimes they were all out and the guy told me that they would have some more in a few hours and they always did. Could they be sitting out somewhere else you think? That%26#39;s why I was curious what the texture was at most places. From what you are saying it sounds like most are on the moist/cake side.

Okay, I gotta know, what is a B%26amp;W cookie? I am a cake person but hate to miss a good sugar fix in any form.

A b/w, or black %26amp; white cookie, is about 6'; diameter, white cake, half with chocolate frosting/ half vanilla frosting.

They are also sold in minature size,

They are quite good!!!

I just had a good laugh. Go to google.com and search for images using ';black and white cookies.'; Lots of images of the real cookies all right.... but you%26#39;ll also see a B/W bunny, a B/W kitty, and even a B/W Shetland Pony!

By the way, I know the deli you%26#39;re talking about on 49th St. %26amp; 7th Ave. (Nick%26#39;s?). They don%26#39;t bake %26#39;em fresh. They might not have a stale taste, but the really good B/W cookies are baked fresh.

Jerry Seinfeld had a comedy routine about B/Ws.

Thanks again Bettina. Good to know about that bakery. I%26#39;ll try some of the ones mentioned.

Yeah, I saw the Seinfeld episode, that%26#39;s how I learned about them. Although, isn%26#39;t that the one where Jerry threw up for the first time in 12 years and blamed it on the cookie?
