Please help! I%26#39;m hoping that one of the ';New York experts'; (you all really know your stuff!) can help me decide which of these two hotels I should stay at when I visit NYC in March (three weeks..can%26#39;t wait!) I have done quite a bit of reseach on both hotels...they are very similar- as far as what they offer-we want a 1 bedroom suite with kitchenette. I think I like the location of The Lombardy Hotel better (just a few blocks, but closer to Bloomies!) plus I understand it has been renovated in the past few years-which always is important with these older hotels. Last year we stayed at The Muse-which was fun, but we wanted a little more room this trip (and a little closer to 5th Ave and shopping...plus want to be closer to Serendipity!) Would really appreciate any info...have reservations at both, but must cancel and free up the space at one of them! Thanks for the help! Looking forward to spending time with a Big Apple Greeter in Greenwich Village one afternoon!
Re: The Kimberly Hotel or The Lombardy Hotel??
I%26#39;d have a go at the Lombardy. Location is great and if it fits your budget then it%26#39;s perfect. Let us all know your choice and how the stay went after you return.
Re: The Kimberly Hotel or The Lombardy Hotel??
That%26#39;s a tough call. It would make me very nervous that there%26#39;s not one review of the Lombardy here (or anywhere else I can find). I know the area well and used to know someone who lived there but that was ages ago.
Just to complicate matters a bit, I%26#39;ll add the Affinia 50 is right near the Kimberly and has been recently renovated. And the Helmsley Carlton is even closer to Serendipity. Also, the 1871 House has apt like rooms and is even nearer.
The Kimberley is next door to the Affinia 50 and looks excellent value.
Have to agree with nywhiz try the Affinina 50 we stayed in junior suite for 7 nights (see review) and had a ball.
Enjoy your stay!
Thanks for the suggestions...I checked all of them...not available for my dates!! Drat! I really liked the Affinia50-will try to book for my next trip. I agree with you NYWhiz-wish there were some comments about The Lombardy, alto Frommers Travel Guide recommends it...does that help? I booked The Kimberly first, maybe I should go with my first choice....but???? Any more thoughts....
I don%26#39;t know if it will help you with your decision, but I%26#39;ll be in NYC with my husband for 6 nights in May. After much research and e-mail correspondence, I booked a 1 BR suite at the Kimberly. It%26#39;s looks like a great value, the reviews on this site are very good, location is good, and having a balcony sounds like a nice bonus. Whatever you decide, please be sure to post a review on this site. And . . . have a great time!
We stayed at the Kimberly in December and loved it. It is within easy walking distance of almost everything---we walked to Times Square, the Lincoln Center, Central Park (and all through Central Park!) and up and down 5th Ave. many times. There is a subway stop within a block, several restaurants (great breakfasts!)
The rooms were spotlessly clean as were the bathrooms and the beds were the most comfortable we%26#39;ve ever slept on. Don%26#39;t know anything about the Lombardy, but we can highly recommend the Kimberly.
How much does the Lombardy want? I think for me, it would have to be a great bargain to chance staying there since I don%26#39;t know what condition it%26#39;s in. Have you found photos anywhere on the web of their rooms?
pictures can be found at lombardyhotel.com. it looks pretty good, but you can%26#39;t always trust what you can see in a picture.
nywhiz-The Kimberly is $229. and The Lombardy is $275. for a 1bedroom suite (of course, before taxes). My friend and I discussed this (as we shopped for new clothes for our trip!!!) and we have decided on The Lombardy-because of it%26#39;s history-built in 1920 by William Randolph Hearst for Marion Davies-we like the location-room size 850 square feet and mainly because we want to be the first to report on it here!!! (just kidding, but we will report!). I think both places would work for us...just a gut feeling we have about The Lombardy! I was a travel agent for 10 years...and sort of have a feel for what I like! Bottom line...we just want to be in New York again...we love it!!! PS..in Frommers they said-if you can%26#39;t stay at the Sherry-Netherland (which we can%26#39;t $$$$$)-try The Lombardy!!!)
