Good Hotel for Students

Hey all, I%26#39;m looking for a decent inexpensive hotel (not hostel) for two. We%26#39;re students, so our expectations/budget aren%26#39;t too high. What would you suggest in terms of either specific hotels or areas to consider? (We%26#39;ve both been to NYC before, and we%26#39;re from Montreal so we%26#39;re not scared of public transit. We%26#39;re not fixated on staying in Times Square) Any help would be appreciated!

What do you consider to be inexpensive?

100-ish before hotel taxes.....how much are those anyway?

And are priceline and its rivals worth the wager?

Priceline and Hotwire are worth it. Manhattan%26#39;s so small that when you specify an area and a class, you%26#39;re not likely to get too much variation (in other words, it%26#39;s hard for them to give you the shaft).

So it%26#39;s not likely that I would wind up staying in some thoroughly sketchy hotel? Which neighborhood would ensure a good balance between accessible location and inexpensive quality?

How much do you want to spend per night? Are you both over 21? What do you want to do while in NYC? Priceline is definitely worthwhile but you might have to share a bed. Go to biddingfortravel.com and look at what others are getting and the prices they%26#39;re paying. If you want to do this, study and I mean study the FAQ on bft.

Second Home on Second is another option to consider. Young area. The place gets decent reviews here.

Thanks, nywhiz, I%26#39;ll give it a shot.

The Vanderbilt YMCA is also an option. Its near the UN on the East side and it would be a shared bath. Not sure if that would work for you but the price is right.
