You are packing a lot into day 1 - National History museum could take hours. On day 2 for shopping, just be aware Macy%26#39;s and Bloomingdales are quite a distance apart, need to get a subway or taxi from one to the other. If you are planning the EBS in the evening, then start shopping at Bloomingdales and work your way down to Macy%26#39;s, which is just round corner from ESB. There are lots of shops around Macys worth checking out too, I think Lord and Taylors are around there and the Army and Navy. Enjoy.

4 museums in 1 day??? You%26#39;re kidding right? And on a Saturday all museums are mobbed. This itinerary sounds more like a marathon than a holiday. Relax. Stop and smell the roses (so to speak.) Whatever musuems you do do, I%26#39;d do them on Tues. Have a great time.
Dont worry - I have no intention of doing all 4 museums - itinerary as much about reminding me whats in that part of town when we%26#39;re there. We will see how it goes when we get there as to which we decide to visit. Good advice about going on the Tue rather than Sat - will change that around. Thanks....
PS. apologies about terrible spelling of itinery (itinerary)!!
I think I%26#39;d pick one museum and go with it. It took us half a day to see MOMA and would%26#39;ve taken more than that to see all of the Met, but it closed and we had to leave. They can get expensive too-- MOMA was at least $20 a ticket, and totally worth it, but after $20 for four museums it can get to be too much. They have free days/afternoons, so you might want to look into that so that you can just go in for free, see the few things you want to see and then leave without feeling like you paid a whole lot to just spend a little time there. That%26#39;s what I%26#39;m doing on my next trip.
If there was a hospital for itineraries yours would enter via the emergency room. Let%26#39;s see if we can doctor it up a bit.
Day 1. If you think you%26#39;re going to do the Museum of Natural History, MoMa, the Met, the Gugg and Central Park in one day I have a bridge I%26#39;d like to sell you. You can easily spend a half day or more in each. Plus, Saturday is the most crowded day for visiting museums. Pick two museums and sandwich them around lunch and your visit to Central Park.
On Day 2, scratch Bloomingdale%26#39;s. It%26#39;s nowhere near Macy%26#39;s, the ESB and anything else you have scheduled for this day. Also, since you%26#39;re having drinks at the Rainbow Room the evening of Day 1, the View might be a bit redundant.
Day 3. I love Katz%26#39;s. But you have to eliminate it. It%26#39;s not close enough to Greenwich Village, which is where you%26#39;ll be. After the Intrepid and Circle Line, hop the subway to the Village, Soho and Tribeca to explore. Chances are you%26#39;ll stumble upon a great cafe for lunch. If you like great burgers and fries in an old time tavern setting, try Fanelli%26#39;s in Soho on Prince Street.
Day 4. You can move Ground Zero and St. Paul%26#39;s into this part on your itinerary since they%26#39;re right near the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island tour departure/arrival points. Save South Street Seaport %26#39;till later. No need to return to your hotel to change clothes (unless you specifically want to take the water taxi to the River Cafe) if you%26#39;re going to River Cafe only for lunch. Just don%26#39;t wear jeans that morning. After touring downtown, hop the subway to the Heights (#2 or 3 to Clark Street station) and walk from the Heights to the River Cafe. After walking across the Bridge, then do South Street Seaport.
Day 5. Since we%26#39;ve moved Ground Zero and St. Paul%26#39;s to Day 4, you have plenty of time for shopping. You can hit Century 21 in the morning, drop off purchases at hotel, have lunch at the Carnegie, then hit Bloomingdale%26#39;s later. If you have time, you might want to squeeze a visit to Grand Central Station in this afternoon. Really is worth seeing.
Also, try to Squeeze in a dinner at Virgil%26#39;s, perhaps on Day 1.
Aren%26#39;t there some weekdays that some museums are closed? I thought I read that one was closed on Monday%26#39;s and another on Tuesday%26#39;s. This true?
Yeah some of them are closed on certain days. It all depends on the museum. They all have websites with opening/closing/free time information though.
Ruffian, thats great advice - thank you. Ive been doing lots of research via this website and others and thought i had group places that were close together each day, but its so over whelming, I think ive still managed to my knickers in a twist!!!
I know I am totally unrealistic about how much I want to pack in and im well aware that we are not going to do everything, but at least if i have an idea of whats where then we can do what we feel like out of our top picks each day!
Now I see your suggestions, they seem far more logical and Ill be doing it your way!
Im sure my trip report will look very different to my itinerary - who cares? I want to see and do as much as possible without killing myself (and my partner) in the process!
Thanks again Ruffian and to everyone else too!
